BOTOX® therapy is used to relax the muscles in the face that create fine lines and wrinkles and to prevent further deepening of lines. It is a simple 10-minute procedure, with a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that need treating. There is an art to BOTOX® therapy - to achieve the best, most natural looking results it must be placed in the right muscle, in the correct place, at an ideal dose, by an experienced medical pratitioner. The most common areas we treat are the frown line, or ‘grumpy lines’, the horizontal ‘worry’ lines on the forehead, and the ‘crow’s feet’ around the eyes.
Tiny quantities of the toxin are injected directly into the affected muscles. It takes three to five small injections between the eyebrows to treat the frown line. The treated muscles weaken over the following week or so. Most people do not notice anything. They simply become aware that they are no longer able to contract the frown muscles. They can still lift their eyebrows normally and blink without problems.
You can frown as often as you like in the first day or so, but the treated areas should not be touched. Don't have a facial massage.
The cost of BOTOX® varies depending on the number of units used. BOTOX® is charged at $18 per unit. On average a frown area uses 20 units, a brow might only 8 - 12 units. Your medical practitioner will work out the right number of units for you and will discuss the total cost before proceeding so there are no surprises. Because everyone has different size and shaped muscles there will be a variance in cost between individuals. Any minor top ups required in the week or two after the initial treatment are charged at the same cost of $18 per unit but top ups are not usually required.
